Fall Colors in Sonoma

I have always been envious of the colors that coat the East Coast in the Fall and living in California, most trees stay green year round. But this year I discovered the autumn gem that wine country hides away, the changing colors of the leaves in vineyards. We went up to Sonoma over the weekend and I did not want to leave, the colors sweeping through the rolling hills were magical and I kept thinking finally, this is what fall really is like.

We went to J Vineyards & Winery in Healdsburg which has long been known for their sparkling wine but produce some excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well. It's a modern winery with a 'Bubble Room' where you can have a five course meal with wine pairings and although I haven't had a chance to try it out (reservations are a must) I have only heard great things. We also went to La Crema, whose wines you will likely find all over the US. They recently opened the La Crema Estate at Saralee's Vineyard in Windsor and it was beyond beautiful. I could have spent literally all day out on their deck looking out over the vineyards and oak trees.

I checked the weather the day before and was on the fence about how warm it would be so I decided that layers were going to be the way to go, which proved to be perfect. In the morning it was pretty cold and didn't warm up until pretty late in the day. I paired THIS swingy 70's inspired top with dark skinnies, black boots, THIS classic trench in a warm nutty brown, and a black and white infinity scarf. Earlier in the day the scarf and trench were life savers and also made me feel like I could camouflage into the grape vines. Later on when the sun finally came out in full force, I left them in the car and rocked the 70's vibe. I love this shirt (currently on sale woo!) partly because it is a denim color and also its swingy shape which is perfect for those days when you are planning to eat a lot (read: bbq lunch, wine, and cheese) since it is not tight but also creates such a fun shape when balanced out with a skinny legged pant. Even though it is from the summer collection, I think it can totally be worn throughout fall and winter as an awesome base layer. For sizing reference I am wearing an XXS in the top and a size 2 in the trench (typically I would wear a 0) but because I plan to layer sweaters and other bulky items underneath, going up a size allowed room.

This week is supposed to be a rainy one here in SF, so I'd love to hear about your great weekends/plans for the week! I'm thinking I will probably be a bit of a blob this week but who knows!
