How to Wear a Monochromatic Outfit

Monochromatic Outfit Inspiration- How to Style

I'm not gonna lie, when I first saw the monochromatic trend in magazines and online, I was a little skeptical. I wasn't sure if I was a fan or not. But I have officially decided that I'm a fan. The trend can feel a little too matchy-matchy but this is where mastering the trend comes in. You have to play up different textures and tones. Please please please don't wear the exact same shade of color head to toe- that's called a crayon halloween costume and it's not pretty.

Pulling inspiration from various street style photos and outfits from various fashion weeks I have put together a few monochromatic looks that you can totally pull off. I especially love mixing rich textures like velvet, chunky knits, and satin since we are in Fall and Winter will be here before we know it. Opting for a rich hue like burgundy or a deep olive (see outfit 1 and 4) lends an elegant edge to a monochrome outfit and would be perfect for holiday parties.

Outfit 4: Pleated Skirt and Sweater

Styling a monochrome outfit doesn't mean you have to go out and buy an entire new outfit. Look through your closet and dresser and pick out a few pieces that you love the color of and see if you have anything else that coordinates and is a different shade of that color. Be creative, the look is all about unexpected combinations of various hues, fabrics, and textures.

I would love to see your takes on the monochrome trend, so be sure to tag me @tay.morrison on Instagram!
