What to Do in San Diego This Holiday Season

Growing up in San Diego, I always dreamt of a white Christmas but I have realized that although we don't get a blanket of white and freezing temperatures, we still know how to celebrate the holiday season and in our own unique way. Think ice skating on the beach in a t-shirt!  I have compiled a list of some of my favorite things to do in San Diego this Holiday Season!

Ice Skating

Nothing sounds more like winter in San Diego that ice skating at the beach. This tradition at the Hotel del Coronado is open until 10pm most days and makes for a perfect date night. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Make-A-Wish San Diego.

Hilton San Diego Bayfront is hosting an outdoor rink with part of every ticket purchase being donated to the USO San Diego.

Parades and Christmas Lights

Travel around the world with gigantic lanterns and lights that depict "Holidays Around the World."

More than 125,000 lights are sparkling through the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas. Head over there for marshmallow roasting and hot mulled wine. On certain dates they will even have snow and horse drawn carriage rides.

December 10 and 17 - San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
Watch as many festively decorated and lighted boats parade through Mission Bay. The theme this year is "Arrrgh! A Pirate's Christmas."

Watch or join with your furry friend with awards for best-dressed!

Drinks, Eats, and Shopping

December 9 - Makers Arcade Holiday Fair
The Broadway Pier is hosting more than 100 local makers, food trucks, crafts, live music, drinks, and games.

December 16 - Pacific Beach SantaCon
Dress up as Santa and join the first annual Pacific Beach SantaCon bar crawl. Bring along an unwrapped new toy for a Toys for Tots fundraiser.

December 17 - San Diego Made Holiday Market
The Lafayette hotel is hosting more than 60 local makers to bring their handmade goods along with food stations, cocktails and beer, and kid friendly activities to help you shop for everyone on your list.

December 15-30 Snow Day San Diego
Experience the rush of a snow day with snow tubing lanes, ice skating, and falling snow!

December 16-30 - Holiday Movies on the Beach
Every Saturday at 6pm enjoy holiday movies from the comfort of beach chairs or private beach daybed.

Head to Julian and sip on warm apple cider as you stroll through the small town fully decorated for Christmas. On Saturdays you might even find carolers walking and singing about.

If you are seriously craving colder weather and bundling up next to a fire don't think it's impossible! If you're willing to drive into the San Diego mountains you can easily rent a cabin in the trees and roast marshmallows wrapped in a blanket. I took these photos at a cabin on the shore of Lake Cuyamaca which is one of my favorite places in San Diego and is close to Julian.
